Lower Traps Strength Exercise With A Resistance Band

To do this lower traps strengthening exercise (lower traps = lower trapezius, an important muscle helping you stabilize the shoulder blades to avoid rounded shoulders posture), - stand "like a monkey" - flatten your lower back - pull your elbows in direction of ribs, but don't pull beyond the torso (this would activate the rhomboids, and consequently strain the neck). I thought it was bad to flatten/imprint the lower back into the floor. I thought we should strive for neutral spine? Should the rectus ando,onus be engaged during this exercise, or just the TVA?

      you know my friend, the problem with this type of request is that (with all due respect) they start from the wrong standpoint. The point is not HOW to watch your phone in bed, but WHETHER you should do it... I have a radical answer: consider that your phone messes up your neck 6x as much as your desktop when you sit equally well (no hard science behind, just a rough estimate). This is enough to consider your phone as an emergency device: if you're not dealing with an emergency, don't take your phone. I know I sound old-fashioned, boring and everything. But I didn't set the rules... Actually, I am now waiting for my food on the kitchen bar, and I went upstairs to take my laptop to type this, rather than doing it on my phone. Still not ideal, but better. That's the idea. Makes sense?

    • @OlivierGirard
      @OlivierGirard 13 годин тому

      This happens a lot on some cars, as well as with some hair cuts (e.g., hair bun)... if you cannot resolve it with the headrest directly, the best you can do is to recline the backrest A LITTLE and push the lumbar support forward to compensate. There shouldn't be a big gap behind your shoulder blades, though (safety in case of a crash).

      Electric tables with a 3-parts lift go down until 62-65cm. If the lift is only in 2 parts, the adjustment range will be limited, either towards the low end or towards the high end. This one is from Kinnarps (like my chair).

    All of the monitor height recommendations are based on the ability to use a keyboard without looking at it - which is not me. The higher I adjust my 27inch display, the more I have to bend my neck down to the keyboard. As an architect I permanently switch between the screen and my keyboard and I can’t do anything about the neck pain. Watching 3 different UA-cam vids the recommendations vary between top 10 degrees below a straight view level - top on straight eye level - 1/4 below 🙈

    • @OlivierGirard
      @OlivierGirard 13 годин тому

      You have a point in stating that touch-typing is healthier than looking at the keyboard. For some jobs (e.g., with complex shortcuts) you may want to consider the Elgato Stream Deck with programmable keys, which will be easier to place on your desk and will reduce the time spent looking at the keyboard. From a physiological perspective, bear in mind that whenever you look above horizontal, your eyes do half the job and the neck the other half (i.e. neck extension, which increases muscle strain and pressure on the intervertebral cartilage - cf Rule 1b in my book The Posture Manual).

    Thank you so much for the video. This is by far the most clear and straight-ahead scientific explanation of breathing biomechanics I've ever watched. I once noticed I had slight rib cage flare, maybe dued to my unconscious constant excessive thoracic extension, as well as light-breathing habit from my allergy history. I'm physically active but got some unexplainable fatigue and dizzy throughout the day from time to time, even though I didn't do anything physically wearing nor I had other major health conditions. I randomly browsing some other breathing technique videos and stumble upon some ones about exercising diaphragm muscle, as well as this video, and tried to consciously adjust my old breahting habit. After I got a grasp of it, I started to feel more refreshed and relaxed already, instead of fatigue. No kidding, just by adjusting my breathing habit. Then I even tried to practice breathing technique while standing and submerging my upper body in a pool, I think it puts my diaphragm and rib cage muscles under extra load to work up because of underwater pressure, and had been able to 'wake them up' even more. I now can clearly sense the difference between rib cage elevation(which is not ideal) and expansion(preferred) while inhaling. How ironic it is we breath 24/7 but not many people are properly doing it. I really wish my PE/Health teachers in school had taught about this more specifically. 😂

    I've been following your videos on ergonomics for a while now and I've learned a lot from them, thank you!! I'm hoping you might be able to offer me some guidance on choosing an ergonomic keyboard. I am a 25-year-old woman with ulnar nerve subluxation in both arms and early stages of carpal tunnel syndrome. I am looking for a keyboard to use for many hours a day. I am currently considering three options: -The Logitech Wave keyboard that you featured in your video 4:15 -The Nulea RT06 foldable keyboard, which is a flat split keyboard without a wrist rest, - And the Perixx PERIBOARD-413W keyboard, which is also a split keyboard but with a wave and wrist rest. I have watched all of your videos on keyboards, heights, and wrist rests, but I am still unsure which option would be the best choice for me. Unfortunately, my doctors have not been able to provide me with guidance on this decision. I would greatly appreciate your opinion and advice on which keyboard I should try in my situation. Thank you for your time and consideration!!

    • @OlivierGirard
      @OlivierGirard 11 днів тому

      Hello dear, To be very honest, I doubt that a keyboard will resolve your problems. In view of what you tell me, there must be something more systemic (e.g., you leaning on your forearms, probably due to a lack of lumbar support). I have a lot of patients & clients who believe in the magic bullet that will resolve all their issues, but that's a BIG mistake. Furthermore, the choice of the keyboard depends on you (in part. how well you can touch-type) and your activity (in part. how much you need the numeric keypad). Finally, I haven't tested the 2 last ones of your list, so I don't feel comfortable giving you a definite opinion on them. Hence, my advice is that you consider fixing your posture before considering fixing your keyboard. The Posture Academy (oliviergirard.ch/en/posture-academy-online-program/) can help you with that, but you can also arrange a consultation with me via my webshop (oliviergirard.ch/en/shop/). I hope this makes sense...

    I need your help, i’m 6 foot about 6’1 in between there and i can’t figure out my desk height, and the herman miller! I normally don’t adjust my chairs at all and leave them in a straight up position but always have neck and shoulder pain put play very well. I would love advice on a good height for my desk, how to find that height, and as someone who has an embody but likes to sit straight up and down, and doesn’t normally adjust chairs out of the up right position, what would you recommend for adjusting this chair

      @@OlivierGirard i dont particularly have one. i just simply want to know if it can withstand heavy clicks because most mechanical keyboards are durable so heavy clicking is not a problem but this keyboard is not a mechanical keyboard (probably) and i want a keyboard that is durable and quite to click on at the same time because i hate noisy clicks like mechanical keyboards are.

    I’m 6’3 and this is the most comfortable chair I’ve sat in. Aeron was too small for me, and I rarely see anyone selling a size C.

    Thank you, sometimes it's great to hear a succinct summary on a topic like this, rather than so many videos others could make. I appreciate this!

    I've tried to use "Page up/down" instead of the scroll wheel but it's just not the same. Way clunkier. I'll try again though. But just got the idea to have a separate mouse on the left hand side--one of those trackball mouses with the scroll wheel around the trackball. Should be able to scroll with the thumb on the left side this way, while using my other ergonomic mouse (a vertical trackball mouse) on the right.

    great video, original content, genuine advice. For so long I have been experiencing this pain, and I never see a professional "sitting" advice as real as this. It seems you yourself experienced this pain because your remedies are real (these positions and exercises are quite similiar to my personal pain relief remedies).
